Highlighting Important Milestones and

Volunteering Contributions across the Country

As the year of 2021 marked the golden anniversary of United Nations Volunteers, UNV Sri Lanka celebrated the occasion with the ‘UNV50 Country Awards’ on the 7th of December 2021 at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The event was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative, Heads of UN Agencies and World Bank in addition toother dignitaries representing the Government, academia, private sector, civil society and Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs). 

The state sector entities, corporate sector entities, VIOs, media institutions, tertiary education institutions, UN agencies and development partners, UN Volunteers, V-Force Volunteers, National Steering Committee on Volunteering, V-Awards celebrities (performing artists & volunteerism ambassadors) were among the categories of organisations and individuals who were recognised.

Additionally, Mr. Kushil Gunasekera and Mr. Roshan Mahanama were presented Volunteering Excellence Awards for championing volunteerism in Sri Lanka and Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne was presented the Lifetime Achievement Golden Award for his selfless dedication to the volunteering cause during his lifetime. 

During the celebration, UNV launched the e-version of the ‘UNV at 50’ Coffee Table Book highlighting milestones of the volunteer journey in Sri Lanka and showcased a video highlighting the importance of partnership.
