UNV has been promoting the role of youth in development and encouraging youth to build capacity and engage in making a better society. To identify the distinctive contributions of youth volunteering for peace and development in 2014 UNV Sri Lanka spearheaded a national study on youth volunteerism, launching the report Sri Lankan Youth: Volunteering to Make a Difference at the 2014 World Conference on Youth in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The report captures the power youth volunteerism brings to empower communities and instigate change in societies. It also identifies challenges to youth volunteering and recommendations for policy makers and Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs) to overcome these challenges.
